Being Josephite

Companion on the Journey

Details of Joseph are few but he is characterised in Scripture as being a breaker of boundaries who:

  • acted with justice
  • loved with kindness
  • listened to his dreams
  • journeyed into unmapped territory
  • walked humbly in everyday life.

Theologically, Joseph provided the context in which the Word of God could be enfleshed and within the Catholic tradition became the patron of the Universal Church and

  • patron of fatherhood,
  • patron of the artisan/worker,
  • patron of immigrants,
  • patron of a happy death

Prayer

Joseph, we remember the continuing reality
of suffering and transformation of Earth and her Peoples,
we remember this was your life.
Of your plans, all that was left was broken,
yet we learned that what was left was enough.
For you it wasn’t a question of success,
it was being faithful to the mix we call Life.
Be with us as a special companion as we journey through Life
We pray for enlightenment and nourishment to live our lives to the full.
   AMEN

The dream of God shall be carried in
strong and gentle hands
