In 1989, the Athena Sisters Collective, Palmerston North, became affiliated to the Sisters of St Joseph. In order to attract funding and to be of greater benefit to more people by having collective resources, the group asked that they operate as a charitable trust under the umbrella of the Sisters of St Joseph. This was agreed to by the Sisters who gave their blessing to the new venture.
